Tinian Veterans Memorial Park illuminated for the holidays

TINIAN—The Municipality of Tinian and Aguiguan held its annual Christmas Lighting Event last Dec. 7 at the Tinian Veterans Memorial Park.

Community members gathered at the park in anticipation to witness the spectacular Christmas lights assembly put together by the Tinian Mayor’s Office Special Projects Division. A countdown was conducted for Mayor Edwin P. Aldan and the Tinian leadership to flip the switch, as the Tinian community stood by to welcome this year’s holiday season. Later in the evening, a performance was given by the Tinian Elementary School Chamorro Club students.

The Tinian Veterans Memorial Park was transformed into an island winter wonderland where community members and visitors gather every night to enjoy the wonderful displays. According to Aldan, “the highlight of this year’s Christmas lighting event is the awe-inspiring latte stone Christmas display. The latte stones, symbolic pillars of the Chamorro culture, are stone pillars topped with a capstone, traditionally used as the foundation of ancient Chamorro houses. The impressive display pays homage to the CNMI’s history while igniting a sense of wonder and admiration among locals and visitors alike”.

The Municipality of Tinian and Aguiguan, together with Aldan and the Tinian leadership, would like to wish everyone in the Marianas a safe and enjoyable holiday season. They encourage visitors and guests who visit the island to stop by the Veterans Memorial Park to witness the spectacular Christmas light displays. (PR)
