Honorable Mayor of Tinian & Aguiguan

Edwin P. Aldan ​

Mayor Edwin Palacios Aldan was born on March 29, 1970 and is married to Rosita King-Aldan. Together they are blessed with a son, Anfernee King Aldan, who is a U.S. Veteran that served in
the United States Army as a Paralegal Specialist. Mayor Edwin Aldan has always been a source of pride for his family, especially his parents Benedicto De Guzman Decena and Florinda Aldan Decena.

Mayor Aldan started his professional career as a Police Officer with the Tinian Department of Public Safety. He continued his service in the Department of Public Safety for more than seventeen years, retiring from the police force as a Police Lieutenant. His political career began in 2002 when he was first elected as a member of the 9th Tinian Municipal Council. He then continued to gain the trust and confidence of the people of Tinian as he was repeatedly elected to the House of Representatives representing the Municipality of Tinian and Aguiguan in the CNMI Legislature.

As Congressman, he authored numerous spending bills for the island of Tinian and served in various committees in the 16th, 19th and 20th CNMI Legislatures. On November 13, 2018, the people of Tinian elected him to office as the new Mayor of Tinian and Aguiguan. He was inaugurated to the position on January 14, 2019. On November 07, 2022, Mayor Edwin P. Aldan was re-elected to serve a second term as the Mayor of Tinian and Aguiguan.

In the next four years, Mayor Aldan’s vision is to continue to foster an environment that
promotes responsible, sustainable and diversified economic growth that will work towards improving the quality of life for every single citizen who calls Tinian their home. In the immediacy, his administration will focus on working with the U.S. Department of Defense for all the military build-up and exercises and continue the work of sustaining the delivery of public programs and services that safeguard the health, safety and welfare of our people.

Article VI, section 3 of the Commonwealth Constitution

Established in Article VI, section 3 of the Commonwealth Constitution states that the Mayor shall serve on the Governor’s Council as established by Section 5 of this article,  shall administer government programs, public services, and appropriations provided by law, for the island or islands served by the mayor, and shall report quarterly to the governor, relating to these programs and services or appropriations, may investigate complaints and conduct public hearings with respect to government operations and local matters, and may submit findings or recommendations to the governor and the legislature. The mayor may require information in writing relating to local matters as may be necessary to his investigation under this subsection. The mayor in consultation with the Municipal Council, shall submit items for inclusion in the proposed budgets for both government operations and capital improvement projects. The governor’s budget submission to the legislature shall state his disposition of the budgetary requests contained in the submissions received from the Mayor, he shall coordinate any extension of federal programs extended to the island, shall act as the principal local official for coordinating activities with disaster control for the mobilization of resources and meeting emergency conditions in the islands, shall appoint, in consultation with the head of the respective executive branch department, all resident department heads, and shall perform other responsibilities provided by law.
