Tinian leaders ask governor to renominate King-Hinds to CPA board

TINIAN Mayor Edwin P. Aldan, the members of the Tinian and Aguigan Legislative Delegation, and the Tinian Municipal Council are asking Gov. Arnold I. Palacios to renominate Commonwealth Ports Authority Board of Directors Chairwoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds.

The four-year term of King-Hinds, along with that of her fellow board member, Pete P. Reyes, will expire on Oct. 24, 2023. She represents Tinian while Reyes represents Saipan on the CPA board.

The governor has yet to fill the seat vacated by Rota’s Barrie Toves, who resigned a few months ago. Palacios nominated Bruce L. Jorgensen to represent Rota, but later withdrew the nomination.

In a joint letter, the Tinian mayor, the delegation chaired by Sen. Karl King-Nabors and the council led by Joseph E. Santos told the governor that they have had the “distinct pleasure” of working closely with King-Hinds for over four years, both as fellow public servants and community members dedicated to the progress and development of “our beloved CNMI.”

Throughout this time, the Tinian leaders said, “we have witnessed her exceptional commitment, integrity, and dedication to advancing the welfare of our islands and its people.” She brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, they added.

They said that having served on the board for two consecutive terms, King-Hinds “possesses an intricate understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by the CNMI ports. Her profound knowledge of port operations, logistics, and industry regulations, coupled with her legal background are invaluable and will undoubtedly contribute to the effectiveness and progress of CPA in making informed decisions that align with the long-term growth and sustainability goals of the CNMI’s ports.”
